Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, 192,974,202 cases have been reported so far. Of these, 175,459,388 people have recovered, while 4,145,502 people have died.

Two shots of Pfizer, AstraZeneca vaccines effective against Delta variant: Study

Two doses of Pfizer or AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine are as effective against the highly transmissible Delta coronavirus variant as they are against the alpha variant, according to a study published on Wednesday. Officials say the Pfizer vaccine is highly effective against the delta variant. However, the study reiterated that a single dose of vaccines is not sufficient for high protection.

According to the study, two doses of Pfizer's shot was 88% effective against the Delta variant, compared to 93.7% against the Alpha variant broadly the same as previously reported. Meanwhile, two shots of the AstraZeneca vaccine were 67% effective against the Delta variant, up from 60% originally reported, and 74.5% effective against the Alpha variant.

Canada to open border for fully vaccinated US citizens in August:

Canada will open its borders to fully vaccinated US citizens next month after a nearly 17-month closure. In a statement released by the Government of Canada, "On September 7, 2021, provided that the domestic epidemiologic situation remains favourable, the Government intends to open Canada's borders to any fully vaccinated travellers who have completed the full course of vaccination with a Government of Canada-accepted vaccine at least 14 days prior to entering Canada and who meet specific entry requirements."

More than 41,000 cases reported in India:

India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 41,383 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 3,12,57,720. With 507 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 4,18,987.

The country also witnessed 38,652 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 3,04,29,339. With this, the country's recovery rate has increased to 97.35 %. On the other hand, India's mortality rate stands at 1.34 %. Meanwhile, the number of active cases in the country stands at 4,09,394. The active cases rate in India stands at 1.30 %.
