Even though cases of corona infection are coming out in controlled numbers in the capital, but once again the situation in hospitals has started getting serious. Beds in these hospitals have started becoming full, due to which there is a crisis of beds. The situation is that in these hospitals, the number of patients associated with dengue, post covid, and non-covid problems has increased.
According to the Municipal Corporation, 480 dengue patients have been reported till October 9 this year. A total of 139 dengue patients were found in the last week itself. This time the maximum number of patients have been found as compared to the last two years, while the situation in the hospitals is such that beds have started filling up due to dengue.
The situation in Max Patparganj alone is such that all the beds are full here. Not a single bed was empty here on Wednesday afternoon. Similarly, other hospitals of Fortis, Apollo, and Max also have more dengue patients. Apart from this, there is a lot of struggle for beds in AIIMS, Safdarjung, Lok Nayak, and GTB Hospital.
AIIMS doctor Vijay Gurjar has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, saying that his friend has visited all the hospitals in Delhi but his mother has not been admitted anywhere. He also reached the emergency department of AIIMS, but beds were not found here, so there should be more beds in hospitals.
Apart from filling beds in hospitals, there is also a significant increase in the demand for platelets and blood for dengue. Somewhere, platelets are being sold for 10 and somewhere 15 thousand rupees.
According to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, New Delhi, the demand for platelets has increased significantly, but the hospital said it is difficult to meet the demand of every patient. At the same time, AIIMS Nursing Officer Mukesh Singhal said that due to dengue, there is a lot of demand for platelets.
When Savita Verma, a resident of Punjabi Bagh, reached Delhi AIIMS after visiting five major hospitals with her daughter, she was advised to go to Safdarjung Hospital.
On reaching Safdarjung Hospital, her daughter was admitted to the emergency, but late in the evening, it came to notice that the girl was suffering from dengue. Her platelets have steadily dropped to nine thousand, due to which immediate platelets need to be transfused to stop the bleeding. Savita says that on Tuesday, after circling many places, she went to Ghaziabad and got platelets, for which she had to pay 11 thousand rupees. Also, two people had to donate blood.
Ankur, 32, a resident of Mandawali in East Delhi is suffering from a rare disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis. Recently, due to a road accident, his illness has flared up again, for which he needs immediate treatment. Ankur says that during the last one week he has contacted many hospitals in the capital but beds are full everywhere. On Wednesday, even in Max Hospital, Patparganj, he could not find an empty bed.
