The Indian women's hockey team on Friday launched a fitness challenge to help the families of migrant workers facing trouble in lockdown enforced due to the COVID-19 epidemic. To prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection, nationwide lockdown is in force till May 3. Women hockey players have decided to raise relief funds through public participation for the purpose of feeding at least 1000 families during the nationwide lockdown. During this time people will be encouraged to adopt an active lifestyle.

In a release issued from Hockey India, Indian captain Rani Rampal said, 'Every day we are reading in newspapers and social media that a lot of people are struggling for food, we have helped these people as a team and have decided to do something. '

Rani said, 'We thought an online fitness challenge would be the best way for this. With this, we can also urge people to remain active during the nationwide lockdown. Through this initiative, we aim to raise sufficient funds for the food of at least 1000 families. '

The money received from public participation will be donated to the Uday Foundation, a Delhi-based non-governmental organization (NGO). It will be used to provide basic necessities for migrant workers living in various places and sick people living in slums. Under this fund, apart from providing food and dry ration, people will also be given necessary items like sanitizer and soap for cleaning.
