Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that the number of beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat Scheme has crossed 1 crore figure and the scheme has had a positive impact on the lives of a large number of people. Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana – Ayushman Bharat on September 2018. It has been described as the largest government-sponsored healthcare scheme in the world.
The Prime Minister said in his tweet, 'It is a matter of pride for every Indian that the number of beneficiaries of Ayushman India has crossed 1 crore. In less than two years, this program has positively impacted the lives of a large number of people. He wished all the beneficiaries of this scheme and the people of their family and wished them good health. He appreciated all the doctors, nurses, health workers and others associated with Ayushman India and said that their efforts have made it the largest healthcare program in the world. Modi said, "The scheme has won the trust of many Indians, especially those belonging to the poor and backward classes."
He said that the biggest advantage of Ayushman Bharat scheme is its ease. He said, "Quality and affordable medical care to the beneficiaries can be available not only at the registered place but in any part of India." He said that it also helps those who are away from home or registered in a place from which they are not affiliated. The Prime Minister said that even during his official visit, he has been talking to the beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat.
Modi said, "It is not possible these days but I spoke on the telephone with Pooja Thapa, the 1 croreth beneficiary of Ayushman Bharat." The Prime Minister also released an audio clip of the conversation with Thapa. Thapa is the wife of a soldier who told about surgery in Shillong under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Her husband is stationed in Manipur and is not yet with her due to the lockdown enforced due to Corona virus and they have two young children.
