Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday termed the incident of migrant workers gathering outside Bandra railway station as unfortunate and insisted that such incidents should not happen again in the event of Covid-19 crisis. He said that people gathered outside the station after spreading rumors that train services would resume and he said that caution is needed to prevent such confusing messages from spreading.
The former Union minister urged political parties to stop accusing each other in the current crisis and collectively defeat Covid-19. Pawar said in a Facebook message that an unfortunate incident occurred outside Bandra station yesterday. Someone spread rumors that train services would resume and locals gathered there, unfortunately, social distancing was not followed.
Let us tell you that the lockdown is applicable due to Corona virus across the country, but there was a huge crowd at the station in Bandra, Mumbai yesterday. Around 1500 people reached Bandra station. These people had been rumored that train service would resume from here, due to which people reached there in thousands.
Most of these people were those who work in Mumbai from other states. Earlier, during the lockdown, thousands of people gathered at the Kashmiri Gate in Delhi, not caring about the lockdown, on this incident, PRO DCP Prannoy Ashok of Mumbai Police said that around 1500 people gathered at Bandra railway station premises at 4 pm. Many of them were migrant laborers and they were unhappy with the lockdown expansion and wanted to return to their homes. He has placed his demand before the administration.
Local police officers went to the spot and talked to him and tried to convince him. During this time a part of the crowd became violent, so they had to use mild force to bring them under control. Crowd was dispersed, police is stationed there and the situation is normal and peaceful.
