Countries around the world are scared about the Kovid variant with multiple mutations found in South Africa. South Africa's National Institute of Infectious Diseases said – So far 22 cases of this variant have been found in the country. Scientists have named it B.1.1.529. It has been described as a variant of serious concern.

How many cases have been received so far?

  • The first cases of this variant were found in South Africa. So far 77 people have been infected with this variant there. In Botswana also 4 people have been found infected with this variant. The worrying thing is that even fully vaccinated people in Botswana have fallen prey to it.
  • Along with this, 2 cases of this new variant have also been found in Hong Kong. At present, both the patients have been kept in isolation and are being monitored.
  • One case infected with this variant has also been confirmed in Israel. The infected person has returned from the South African country of Malawi.

Will the vaccine does not affect it?

It is believed that. Since the vaccine has been made according to the virus found in China, but this strain is different from that original virus. The vaccine may not be effective against this variant. Even if it is effective, its efficiency can be reduced. However, there is no concrete information about this yet.
