In Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, cybercriminals blew Rs 10 lakh from a person's account on the pretext of upgrading a mobile SIM card. Upon realising the fraud, the victim lodged a report with Link Road station. The cyber cell is investigating the case. It was said that the caller took the details of the PAN card on the pretext of upgrading the SIM card to 5G.
In a complaint to the police, Virender Prasad Singhal of Ramprastha Colony said that on July 19, a young man got a call from him. He said that your mobile SIM is being upgraded to 5G. The KYC process will have to be done for this. The young man went into the details and took the details of his PAN card. After that, he said that you will get a call and the process will be completed.
The next day at 4 pm, Virender Singhal got a call from another number. The caller asked if you had a call for KYC. He said that no call was received. After some time he got a call for verification.
However, it was said that he was speaking to ICICI Bank. Virender has a savings account with ICICI Bank in Anand Vihar, Delhi. He refused to carry out verification if there was a possibility of disturbances in the conversation. After this, he received a message that Rs 10 lakh has been deducted from his account.
