After Cyclone Tauktae, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for Cyclone 'Yaas' which is likely to reach Odisha and West Bengal on May 26. The rescue preparations started on the east coast. Due to this, high alert issued in five states including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Andaman, and Nicobar.
Due to cyclonic disturbance, extreme rainfall is also likely over Odisha and West Bengal on May 26. According to IMD, both states will experience extremely heavy rainfalls till 28 May. Meanwhile, a red alert issued in all coastal districts of Odisha on Saturday.
Earlier on Thursday, the Meteorological Department had said that on May 22, a low-pressure area will form over the eastern central part of the Bay of Bengal, which could turn into a cyclonic storm. It may hit the Odisha-West Bengal coasts on 26 May.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard, Disaster Relief Team (DRTs), Inflatable Boats, Life boys and Lifejackets, along with a team of doctors and ambulances are on standby. Meanwhile, Port authorities, oil rig operators, shipping- fisheries authorities and fishermen associations have been informed about the cyclone.
According to an ICG spokesperson, the weather in the Bay of Bengal is being continuously monitored. Alerts are being sent with the help of ICG Remote Operating Station (ROS) in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar islands.
