Mikoyan MiG-29K Crashed: A MiG-29K of the Indian Navy crashed during a regular sortie off the Goa coast today. The cause of the accident is perceived to be a mechanical malfunction in the plane.
A board of inquiry (BOI) has been ordered by the Indian Navy to investigate the cause of the crash.
This is the 4th time in the last 5 years that a MiG-29K has crashed.
In the year 2019, a MiG-29K crashed on the outskirts of Goa. The pilots had to face a lot of difficulties at that time as well but they were ejected safely from the plane.
In 2020, a fighter MiG-29K crashed resulting in the martyrdom of Commander Nishant Singh. One of the pilots was rescued but Commander's body was found 11 days after the accident.
In February of the same year, another aircraft crashed after being hit by bird. Both the pilots showed courage and took the plane away from the population before ejecting, for which Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik praised them.
Russian-origin MiG-29K is considered one of the most fierce aircraft in the Air Force. The aircraft supports various new-generation fighter jet technology such as HOTAS (hands-on-throttle-and-stick) controls, and the integration of RVV-AE (also known as the R-77) to allow the aircraft to work swiftly while air-to-air combat.
The aircraft was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2004. The plane provides both air fleet attacks and can also handle surface attacks too.
The plane offers the best combat support to the Indian Navy from the year 2010. The fighter jet is equipped with various modern-day technology that has been the strength of India in the last 15 years.
