Delhi Transport Department Asks Vehicle Owners to Carry Valid PUC Certificates

Pollution Under Control PUC certificate: The Delhi government is very serious about keeping pollution under control in Delhi. The Delhi Transport Department has asked vehicle owners to carry a valid Pollution Control Certificate (PUC) with the vehicle. Failure to do so may result in strict action by the vehicle owners. The Transport Department has said that in the absence of the Pollution Under Control Certificate. The driving license of the vehicle owners can be suspended for three months as a penal action. This advice of the Delhi government has come just before the winter season. Explain that due to haze in the winter season, the pollution level in the national capital is likely to increase.

Delhi Transport Department said that –

A public notice issued by the Delhi Transport Department said that other punitive actions include imprisonment of up to six months or a fine up to Rs 10,000 or both if vehicle owners are caught without a valid PUC certificate. The notice said, "The Department of Transport, Government of NCT of Delhi, in its efforts to control pollution and improve air quality in Delhi, requests all motor vehicle owners in Delhi to provide their vehicles with only valid Pollution Control Certificates. Run with the letter."

In the notice, all the registered vehicle owners have been requested to get their vehicles checked from the pollution testing centers authorized by the Transport Department. Vehicles have to be periodically tested for their emission standards for various pollutants such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, after which they are given a PUC certificate. The period of expiry of the certificate is one year from the date of its registration.

900 pollution testing centers

Delhi has over 900 pollution testing centers authorized by the Transport Department, which are located at petrol pumps and workshops spread across the city. These testing centers issue PUC certificates to vehicles complying with the prescribed pollution standards. This certificate has been created in real-time and is integrated with the vehicle registration database.
