You may have often seen children holding energy drinks around schools like Sting, Coke, Red Bull, etc.. These energy drinks can significantly harm children's health.
However, children often consume these drinks in their desire to get instant energy. Now, the Maharashtra government is planning to take strict action on this issue.
On Friday, Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Minister Dharmarao Baba Atram announced in the state legislature that his department would soon issue an order banning the sale of energy drinks containing high-caffeine items within a 500-meter radius of the state's schools.
He assured this during the upper house session of the state legislature.
Deputy Chairperson of the legislature, Neelam Gorhe, directed Atram to prepare a list of beverages to be banned and coordinate with FDA officials across the state to effectively implement the order.
It is noteworthy that in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, legislator Satyajeet Tambe raised the issue of high-energy drinks being sold outside schools.
He mentioned that these high-energy drinks (Red Bull, Sting) contain excessive amounts of caffeine and advocated for restrictions on their sale. Minister Dharmarao Baba Atram responded to these concerns.
