All the obstacles in the path of filling up the vacant posts of teachers in higher educational institutions have been removed. In such a situation, there is now hope of accelerating the recruitment process. In this series, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has sought details of vacant posts of teachers from colleges and deemed status universities along with all central and state universities in the country. The last date for submission is August 10.

It is being told that eight thousand posts of teachers are vacant in the central university of the country. In universities like Delhi and Allahabad, about half of the total sanctioned positions of teachers are vacant. The condition of the universities of the states is more or less similar.

Sources said that the details of the vacant posts of teachers in the university will come up after it comes out with reserved seats. Anyway, the UGC now wants to step up the issue by blowing it up so that no controversy arises once the recruitment process starts.

This is the reason that institutions have been asked to prepare the details of vacant posts under the fixed roster. Under the existing reservation roster of universities, the university is to be determined as a unit.

Reservation roster controversy was the biggest hurdle behind the inability of teachers to get vacant posts in the university. The Allahabad High Court, in one of its decisions, decided to prepare the reservation roster by considering the department as a unit instead of the university. Later, the Supreme Court also approved it, although the government made a law in Parliament to prepare the reservation roster by considering the university as a unit. This will also include 10 percent reservation.

Union Human Resource Development Minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has stated the need to immediately fill the vacant posts of teachers to improve the quality of higher educational institutions. States have also been asked to work seriously on this subject. The Union Minister was meeting with the education secretaries of the states on Thursday. During this, he also discussed with everyone about the new education policy. Also stressed the need for research and employable education. Giving examples of Germany, Japan and Israel, he said that India should also promote research in mother tongue.
