The election was held on October 21 for 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra. The results were announced on 24 October. At the same time, President's rule was imposed on November 12, because of no claim of any party or coalition to form government in the state. The Shiv Sena and the BJP contested this election together, but the political crisis had arisen since the Shiv Sena ended the 30-year-old alliance with the BJP to demand the chief minister's post.
