After this film, he was known as the Tragedy King because of his tragic roles in films like 'Deedar' (1951) and 'Devdas' (1955).
He was awarded the Filmfare Best Actor Award for the film 'Shakti' in 1983, 'Ram Aur Shyam' in 1968, 'Leader' in 1965, 'Kohinoor' in 1961, 'Naya Daur' in 1958, 'Daag' in 1954.

We and all the fans will celebrate his birthday in a peaceful manner and will believe that he is among us. Dilip saheb was very proud of the fact that he was born in undivided India and brought up in a joint family. In his own eyes, he was a very simple man who lived with his family and used to work. Nothing more than that. He never considered himself as a god, as his fans used to address him’.
