Talking about his journey in an interview, Kapil said, I was first approached to host Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. I went to the channel office as they had called me several times and asked if I would like to host the show. Did I ask which show? He told me to have a glimpse. I asked what should I do? He said that you and Maniesh Paul will host it. I said ok and after that, I was asked to meet the BBC production house. I met him but after seeing me I was told that you are too fat. You lose some weight. I told the channel people what they told me and also said what is all this?

Kapil gave the idea of a comedy show

Kapil said, after this, the channel called the production house and said that Kapil is right and you onboard him as a host, after that he will lose weight. Then I told him, why don't you guys make comedy shows? He asked me to make a pitch, so I asked him for two days because I had no idea. I went home and I really thought about what good I could do. I loved doing standup, sketch comedy, costume comedy, so I put all the things that I liked and planned a show. He asked me how many minutes this show would be, stand-ups, gags, celebrity interviews, etc. The show was going to be around 120 minutes but he wanted only 70 minutes of content.
