The real name of the actress who made a mark in the industry by the name Mandakini is Yasmin Joseph, who was born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Yasmin gave auditions for many films before making a place in Bollywood but she was rejected from three films. Yasmin, who was facing rejection, finally got Ranjit Virk's Majloom film which was released in the year 1986. Even before the release of this film, 22-year-old Yasmin was noticed by Raj Kapoor and he was convinced of her beauty.
According to Madhu Jain's book 'Kapoornama', Rajiv Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with the 1983 film 'Ek Jaan Hai Hum'. But his career did not pick up the pace. So Raj Kapoor made the film 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' in 1985 and relaunched his son Rajiv. Before this film, Raj Kapoor wanted to launch Shashi Kapoor's daughter Sanjana Kapoor, however later he launched Yasmin Joseph by her screen name Mandakini.
