Earned name in the world of direction

Karan ventured into the world of direction with the 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji, the film gave him a taste of success. For this film, he was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay.

After this in his directorial venture in 2001 Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and in 2006, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. These films were also successful at the box office. In 2010, he received the Filmfare Award for Best Director for the second time for his film My Name is Khan. All these films were made under his banner 'Dharma Productions'.

As a producer too 

After the death of his father Yash Johar in 2004, Karan took charge of Dharma Production in his own hands. As a producer, many of his films have come in front of the audience, including 'Kal Ho Naa Ho', 'Dostana', 'I Hate Love Story', 'Agneepath' and 'Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani'.

Tried hand in acting as well

Karan showed his talent not only in the world of direction and production but also in the world of acting. Karan was seen acting in a few films like 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', 'Om Shanti Om', 'Fashion', 'Luck By Chance' and more recently 'Bombay Velvet'.

Influenced by costume designing

Karan Johar, is also a costume designer, contributed to many hit films. The list includes films like 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', 'Dil To Pagal Hai', 'Duplicate', 'Mohabbatein', 'Main Hoon Na', 'Veer-Zara' and 'Om Shanti Om'.

Karan is not untouched by the world of TV

Apart from Big Screen, Karan Johar also proved his talent on small screen. In 2004, he brought the celebrity-based talk show 'Coffee with Karan'. In which he used to interview actors, directors, producers and famous people of the film industry. The show has aired six seasons so far. From 2013 to 2020, viewers watched its six seasons on TV. Apart from this, he has appeared as a judge on reality shows 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' and 'India's Got Talent'.

Surrogacy-turned-father

Karan has not married yet although he has become the father of two children. In February 2017, son Yash and daughter Ruhi were born through their home surrogacy. Karan is raising both children as a single father.
