Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan born 27 December 1965, is an Indian film actor, producer, occasional playback singer, and television personality.
In a film career spanning almost thirty years, Khan has received numerous awards, including two National Film Awards as a film producer, and two Filmfare Awards for acting.
He has a significant following in Asia and the Indian diaspora worldwide and is cited in the media as one of the most commercially successful actors of Indian cinema. According to the Forbes 2018 list of Top-Paid 100 Celebrity Entertainers in the world, Khan was the highest ranked Indian with 82nd rank with earnings of $37.7 million.
The eldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan, Khan began his acting career with a supporting role in Biwi Ho To Aisi(1988) and achieved a breakthrough with a leading role in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). Khan went on to establish himself in Bollywood in the 1990s with roles in several top-grossing productions, including the romantic drama Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), the action thriller Karan Arjun (1995), the comedy Biwi No.1 (1999), and the family drama Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999). After a brief period of decline in the 2000s, Khan achieved greater stardom in the 2010s by playing the lead role in successful films Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Kick (2014), Sultan(2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), all of which rank among the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. He's the only actor to star in the highest-grossing Bollywood films often separate years. According to the Forbes2015 list of Top-Paid 100 Celebrity Entertainers in the world, Khan was the highest ranked Indian with 71st rank with earnings of $33.5 million.
In addition to his acting career, Khan is a stage performer and a philanthropist through his charity, Being Human Foundation. Khan's off-screen life is marred by controversy and legal troubles. In 2015 he was convicted of culpable homicide for a negligent driving case in which he ran over five people with his car, killing one, but his conviction was set aside on appeal. On 5 April 2018, Khan was convicted in a blackbuck poaching case and sentenced to five years imprisonment. He is currently out on bail while an appeal is being heard.
Salman Khan's single status has been a hot topic of conversation in the press over the years. From Katrina Kaif to Iulia Vantur, he has been connected with a crowd of beauties but he has not yet been tempted to take the plunge.
Recently, Salman appeared on a television show hosted by comedian Kapil Sharma, the topic of his marriage was broached yet again. The Race 3 actor entertainingly quipped that he was following the footsteps of his character from Ali Abbas Zafar's Bharat, who remains unmarried till the age of 72.
"Bharat film Mein Bhi Shaadi Nahi Hoti, till the time I am 72. Toh Usi ko follow Kar Raha Hoon main Abhi," Salman laughed. Kapil instantly quipped, "Woh Toh Bhai, script ab bani hai. Isse Pehle Kisko follow Kar Rahe the?"
Meanwhile, Salman has just resumed shooting for Bharat. Katrina Kaif has been roped in as the leading lady of the period drama, of which the final agenda remains to be shot.
Bharat, which also features Sunil Grover, Disha Patani, Tabu and Nora Fatehi in essential roles, is an official adaptation of the 2014 South Korean film Ode To My Father. It is slated to hit the theatres on Eid 2019.
