Under the Crop Insurance Scheme launched for farmers by the Central Government of India, crop insurance claims of around Rs 14,000 crore have been reported across the country so far, out of which claims of only Rs 9,000 crore have been paid so far. According to media reports, the highest claims have been settled in Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, where almost all the claims have been settled. Let us tell you that earlier the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme was compulsory for all farmers, but now it has been made voluntary. Now if the farmer will deposit the insurance premium in the bank, then he will get the benefit of this scheme otherwise.
So far, claims of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana Crop Insurance have been reported across the country, out of which only 9,000 crores have been transferred to the farmers' account. Let us tell you that the last date for the insurance of Kharif crops is 31 July 2020.

If you also want to take advantage of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, then the last date for insurance of Kharif crops is 31 July 2020. Those indebted farmers who do not want insurance facility must inform their bank branch in writing 7 days before the last date. Non-indebted farmers can do crop insurance themselves on CSC, bank, agent or insurance portal.
This big change in the scheme:
From this year the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme has been made voluntary for the farmers. In simple words, those who have taken loans. It was made mandatory for them earlier. Now it is voluntary. All farmers will have to apply for crop insurance in the bank. The insurance premium will be deducted for the farmer who will go to the bank, who opt for crop insurance. They will also get the benefit of crop insurance. In this insurance scheme, as before, all KCC holders will not have crop insurance by themselves, nor will their premium be deducted.This year, the last date for depositing the crop insurance premium for the bank for the Kharif is 31 July.
How to get benefit in PMFBY:
Within 10 days of sowing, the farmer has to fill the application for PMFBY. The benefit of insurance will be given only if your crop has been damaged due to natural disaster. The damage to natural crops, diseases and pests to crops standing between sowing and harvesting. Standing crops compensate for local calamities, hailstorm, landslides, cloudburst, loss from celestial lightning. After harvesting, the insurance company will compensate the damage to the crops kept for drying in the field for the next 14 days due to unseasonal cyclone, hail and storm damage on an individual basis. Due to unfavorable seasonal conditions, if you do not sow the crop, you will get benefit.
How much premium have to be paid:
One has to pay 2% premium for Kharif crop and 1.5% premium for Rabi crop. The PMFBY scheme also provides insurance cover for commercial and horticultural crops. In this, farmers have to pay 5% premium.
