Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has come out in support of the central government on the issue of BSF. The Center had extended the jurisdiction of BSF to 50 KM. Which was canceled in the Punjab Assembly on Thursday. The Captain said that this is not a violation of the federal structure. He advised that politics should not be done on the issue of national security.
Although Captain Amarinder Singh is also an MLA, this is the first assembly in which he did not come to participate in the debate. The Captain said that the increase in the jurisdiction of the BSF does not raise questions on the capability of the Punjab Police. It is being made an issue because of political interest. This is an issue of national security, politics should not be done on it.
The Captain said that only those people who do not know anything about law and order and national security are playing this issue. BSF is also our force like Punjab Police. It is not an external or foreign army that is coming to occupy our land.
He left the Congress after the removal of Captain Amarinder Singh from the CM's chair. The Captain has always been vocal on the issue of national security. Even as CM, he broke the party line of Congress and stood for the Centre. Now again, he has given a strong reaction to the cancellation of the notification of the Center in the Punjab Assembly.
MP Manish Tewari praised the consensus in the Punjab Assembly for passing the resolution on BSF. However, he said it should be challenged constitutionally.
