Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday delivered the inaugural address on the 90th birth anniversary of the revered Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan through video conferencing. Many followers of Mar Thoma Church from India and abroad participated in the program. In his address, he said that the world is currently fighting a strong battle against the global pandemic coronavirus. COVID-19 is not just a physical disease that threatens people's lives. It also brings our attention to unhealthy lifestyles.
The Prime Minister said, 'You will be happy to know that with the help of our Corona warriors, India is fighting against COVID-19 firmly. Earlier this year, some predicted that the virus's impact in India would be very severe. India is much better placed than many other nations because of the many initiatives taken by the government and a people-driven fight. India's recovery rate is increasing.'
Prime Minister Modi said, 'People-based war has given good results so far, but can we reduce surveillance on this issue? not at all. We need to be more careful now. Wearing masks, Physical distance, avoiding crowded places are still necessary. In the last few weeks, the Indian government has addressed both short-term and long-term issues related to the economy. From sea to space, from farms to factories, decisions have been taken to be people friendly and development friendly.'
The Prime Minister said that I congratulate Dr. Joseph and I wish him a long life and best health. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma dedicated his life for the betterment of our society and nation. He was particularly enthusiastic about poverty reduction and women empowerment. Mar Thoma Church is closely associated with the great ideals of St. Thomas, the apostles of the Lord Christ. India has always been open to the spiritual influence of many sources. With this sense of humility, Mar Thoma Church has made a positive difference in the lives of Indians. He has worked in areas such as healthcare and education.
