Australia and New Zealand will jointly host the Women's Football World Cup to be held in 2023. FIFA made its official announcement on Thursday. Let us tell you that Japan had already withdrawn from hosting this tournament. After this, the claim of Australia and New Zealand became very strong.
Australia and New Zealand got 4.1 out of 5 points in the inspection of FIFA, the governing body of world football. Colombia had the second strongest claim after Japan's withdrawal. However, Columbia got only 2.8 out of 5.
Australia-New Zealand have never hosted the Women's World Cup before. This is the first time that the two countries will organize it together. The tournament will be played between 10 July to 20 August 2023. This time, 32 teams will participate instead of 24.
Japan got 3.9 out of 5 in FIFA's inspection. However, seven representatives of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) were likely to vote as Japan continued in the race. This is because Australia is also a member of the AFC. Because of this, Japan had separated itself from this race. AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa said, "I hope 2023 Women's Football World Cup will be very grand."
FIFA has approved 32 teams to play in the Women's Football World Cup. Till now, 24 teams played in it. In 2015, the number of participating teams was increased from 16 to 24. Since 1998, 32 teams have played in the men's section. America has won this trophy four times. America won the World Cup trophy for a record fourth time, beating the Netherlands last month.
