Country’s First Ice Skating Hockey Stadium to be Built in Manali

The world's first ice skating hockey stadium is going to be built in Aleu in Manali, a world famous tourist destination of Kullu district.

The stadium and the rink will be constructed in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Mountaineering and Sports Institute campus. The MOU has been signed with the Netherlands during the Global Investors Meet held at Dharamshala to promote winter sports in the state. About 70 crore rupees will be spent on this scheme under PPP diversion. The stadium will have 12 months of snow, in which tourists can enjoy ice skating along with hockey. This will encourage winter sports, while tourism will also get wings.

Colonel Neeraj Rana, director of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Sports said that this MOU will be a boon for the winter sports of the country, as both the Winter Games are competitions played in the Olympics. President of the Hotel Association Anoop Ram Thakur, Tourism businessman Rupesh Gautam, Sanjay Kumar, Mohar Singh Thakur said that the stadium will be a center of attraction for tourists.

The Netherlands team will arrive in Manali in the last week of January 2020 to inspect the proposed Hockey Ice Skating Stadium and rink construction. The team will prepare the master plan for the stadium construction only after seeing the venue during this period.
