Heavy rain has wreaked havoc in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. People saw such torrential rains after many years. Thousands of people have been affected. According to IMD, a Cyclonic Circulation is persisting over the Southwest and South-central Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, heavy rains may occur up to the southern part of Tamil Nadu up to Cuddalore in Pamban around November 25.
At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rains in coastal Andhra Pradesh including Chennai, Kavali, Nellore, Tirupati in the northern part of Tamil Nadu from November 26 to 28. According to the Meteorological Department, strong winds are also possible in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh-Bay of Mannar along the southwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal from November 26 to 27. Its speed can be up to 40-60 kph. IMD has advised fishermen to stay away from the sea in view of heavy rains and strong winds.
Rain in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu has broken all previous records. The record of 30 years has been broken here. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said a compensation of Rs 10,000 for houses affected by water entering the premises, Rs 5 lakh for completely destroyed houses and incessant rains and floods in Yelahanka, Bengaluru. 1 lakh will be paid soon for the houses damaged due to rain.
According to Manoj Rajan, commissioner of the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Authority, the state received 129 mm of rain in November, which is 271 per cent more than the average rainfall for the month.
