Police Inspector Nandkumar Gopale and Inspector Asha Korke have been sent to judicial custody for two weeks by Maharashtra CID arrested in the Parambir Singh recovery case. A Mumbai court has ordered to send two police officers Nandkumar Gopale and Asha Korke to judicial custody for 14 days, arrested in the Marine Drive extortion case involving former city police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
Recently, Maharashtra CID arrested Police Inspector Nandkumar Gopale and Inspector Asha Korke in the Parambir Singh recovery case. Nandkumar Gopale and Asha Korke were called for questioning by the state CID. However, after hours of interrogation, both were arrested. Both the arrested police officers were earlier posted in the Mumbai Crime Branch. Along with these two, a case of extortion was registered against the former city police commissioner Param Bir Singh. The case was registered at Marine Drive police station.
The arrests of Nandkumar Gopale and Asha Korke come in connection with a complaint filed by real estate developer Shyamsunder Agarwal on July 22 at the Marine Drive police station on charges of extortion. In which there was an allegation of extortion of Rs 15 crore. However, the FIR names seven others including Parambir Singh, including the names of five police officers.
During the investigation, the police had arrested Agarwal's former business partner Sanjay Punamiya and his associate Sunil Jain. However, the five policemen named in the FIR have been identified as DCP Crime Branch Akbar Pathan, Assistant Commissioner of Police Shrikant Shinde, ACP Sanjay Patil, Inspector Asha Korke and Crime Branch Inspector Nandkumar Gopale. Also, it has been told that increasing the scope of investigation of the extortion case registered in the Marine Drive police station, its investigation was transferred from SIT to State CID.
A non-bailable warrant was recently issued by Thane Court against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. The police, while filing an application in the court, had said that a non-bailable warrant should be issued against him. As he is absconding in the recovery case registered against him and is not even appearing for questioning on summons.
