A restaurant in south Delhi, which had landed in controversy last week for allegedly denying entry to a saree-clad woman, has been shut down. The matter had caught a lot of attention and even the National Commission for Women had taken cognizance of this matter and asked Delhi Police to investigate the matter. Political parties also raised this issue a lot. In the midst of all this, now the information about the closure of the restaurant has come to the fore. It is being told that the restaurant did not have a valid license to operate it.

Notice to Aquila Restaurant located at Ansal Plaza in the Andrews Ganj area

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) had also issued a notice to Aquila Restaurant located at Ansal Plaza in the Andrews Ganj area. Investigation revealed that the restaurant did not have a health business license and was operating in unhygienic conditions. It also had the illegal occupation of public land. In the notice issued by SDMC, citing the inspection of September 21 and September 24, it was directed to close it within 48 hours and if it was not done, it was asked to take other appropriate action including sealing, the restaurant owner closed it.

In a reply sent by the restaurant owner regarding the notice on September 27, it was said that the restaurant has been closed immediately and it will not be run without the trade license of SDMC.

What's the matter?

It may be mentioned here that Aquila restaurant in South Delhi came into the limelight when a woman, in a Facebook post last week, claimed that she was not allowed to enter the restaurant just because she was wearing a saree. The woman had also posted a video of an alleged altercation with the restaurant's staff. After this, there was huge resentment among the people about that restaurant. Also, the National Commission for Women, taking cognizance of this matter, asked the Delhi Police to investigate the matter. Several other political parties, including Congress, had also demanded action against the restaurant.

However, in a statement issued by the restaurant, it was said that the woman was requested to wait at the gate itself due to the non-availability of seats inside. Later, when she entered the restaurant, she got entangled with the staff here. In a statement issued by the restaurant, it was also said that it welcomes its guests in all clothes from modern to traditional.
