Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the leader who led the separatist campaign in Jammu and Kashmir for over 30 years, passed away last night at his residence. At the same time, politics has intensified in India as well as in Pakistan on his death. According to the information, Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced one-day state mourning in the country. Even PM Imran Khan targeted India and declared the country's flag to be flown at half-mast, calling Geelani a 'Pakistani'.
Pakistan PM Imran Khan tweeted on Geelani's death and wrote, "Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of Syed Ali Geelani, a Kashmiri freedom fighter who fought all his life for his people and their right to self-determination. He faced imprisonment and torture by the occupied Indian state but he persevered. Also, he wrote that we salute his courageous struggle in Pakistan and remember his words that he said that we are Pakistani and Pakistan is ours. The flag of Pakistan will remain at half-mast and we will observe official mourning one day.
On Geelani's death, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi tweeted that Pakistan condoled the death of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the torchbearer of the Kashmir independence movement. Geelani fought for the rights of Kashmiris till the end of the detention of Indian occupation. May they rest in peace and their dreams of freedom come true.
In response to this tweet of Qureshi, senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi attacked him saying that Mr. Qureshi you have actually lost a member of your intelligence agency working in India to radicalize innocent Kashmiris in the name of Jihad. . Your country and all your representatives will be recorded in history for killing innocent Kashmiris.
Expressing grief over Geelani's death, Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa also said that he was saddened by Geelani's death. He was the leader of the freedom movement of Kashmir. Bajwa also leveled allegations against India. He said India did not do justice to Geelani.
