Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out in the first round of the Indonesia Masters 500 badminton tournament. He was beaten 21-18, 12-21, 14-21 by Shesar Hiren Rhustavito of Indonesia on Wednesday. World number 12 Srikanth won the first set, yet he could not win the match. The match between Srikanth and Shesar lasted for an hour and three minutes. Srikanth lost in the first round of the second consecutive badminton tournament this season. He had earlier lost the first tournament of the season at the Malaysia Open. This was Srikanth's second consecutive opening-round defeat this season. In mixed doubles, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy went down in straight games to the South Korean combination of Ko Sung Hyun and Eom Hye Won 8-21 14-21.
Earlier, Indian shuttlers Lakshya Sen and Shubhankar Dey failed to make it to the main round of Indonesia Masters. Both suffered losses in the qualifiers. Lakshya Sen was defeated by Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand in the match played in Jakarta on Tuesday. Tanongsak won the match 21-13, 21-12. The match between the two lasted 32 minutes. Lakshya won a silver medal at the World Junior Championship in 2018.
