Brics Summit 2023: The leaders of the BRICS- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, were called for a group photograph, and the standing positions of the leaders were marked with the respective tiny flags of the member nations.

It was here that PM Modi noticed the tricolor on the ground. He made sure not to step on it and swiftly picked up the flag and kept it in his pocket. The South African President Cyril Ramaphosa too got impressed by the Indian PM’s sheer sense of respect to the national flag, and picked up the South African flag placed on the ground.

What's more to know about BRICS Summit

The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is currently in Johannesburg to attend the 15th BRICS Summit which is being held in the South African city of Johannesburg.

PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with his South Africa counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa and discussed the progress made in the bilateral ties between the two nations and also exchanged views to work together to strengthen the voice of Global South.

It is worth noting that the Indian Prime Minister is currently on a 3-day visit to South Africa and Greece and was invited by the South African President to attend the BRICS summit being held under South African chairmanship from August 22-24, 2023.

PM Modi's presence in South Africa is in response to an invitation from the country's President, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa. Additionally, this visit also marks the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between India and South Africa.

The upcoming BRICS Summit in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24 is poised to witness the largest gathering of heads of state and government from Global South countries in recent years.

BRICS consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, representing major world economies.
