The Karnataka High Court granted an interim stay on the Competition Commission of India (CCI) inquiry order, relieving major e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart. The commission ordered an inquiry after receiving complaints of violation of provisions of competition laws. A lawyer associated with the case said that the court has ordered a stay in this case. The concerned parties have been given eight weeks to file their reply.
On Monday, Amazon filed a petition for stay order. Amazon had asked the court to dismiss the CCI's January 13, 2020 inquiry order. In January, the CCI ordered a probe against Flipkart and Amazon for offering huge discounts and adopting other alleged wrongful trading policies, including selling goods through special alliances with some companies. Amazon has welcomed the court's decision. On the other hand, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAT) has said that it will appeal against the High Court order.
