Recently, Parag Agarwal of Indian origin got the command of Twitter, after which India's stature has increased all over the world. Now, Indian-origin Leena Nair has been appointed as its new Global Chief Executive by French luxury group ‘Chanel’ in London on Tuesday.
Till now she was the Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) of Unilever, but now she has resigned. Neela Nair will join the group from January i.e., the new year, told Chanel.
These international brands sell their tweed suits, quilted handbags, and perfumes. Alan Jopp, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unilever, said: "Lena has made a significant contribution to the company over the past three decades. I would like to thank her for this."
Leena Nair hails from Kolhapur, Maharashtra and she did her schooling at Holy Cross Convert School in the same city. She said that when she got an offer from Xavier’s college in Jamshedpur, her family was not at all convinced, but Neela convinced them. It takes about 48 hours to reach Jamshedpur by train from Kolhapur and because of this it was very difficult for Neela to convince her father.
Leena completed her electronics engineering from Walchand College of Engineering in Sangli. After this, she took an MBA degree from Xavier's School of Management (XLRI), Jamshedpur. Here, Leena was also the gold medalist of her batch.
Indian-origin Leena Nair's career spans nearly 30 years at the Global Consumer Goods Company. Leena has 30 years of experience. She has got credit for many HR interventions. One of these was 'Career by Choice'. It was a program aimed at making such women a part of the workforce, who have left their careers far behind.
Born in 1969, Nair had moved to London from India in 2013. At that time, she was made the Global Vice President of Leadership and Organization Development in the London headquarters of the Anglo-Dutch company. After this, in 2016, she became the first woman and youngest CHRO of Unilever.
In the Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) where Leena started her career as a Management Trainee 30 years ago (in 1992), she rose to the post of CHRO in 2016. Let us tell you that Hindustan Unilever later changed its name to Unilever.
52-year-old Leena Nair shifted to London from India 8 years ago in 2013. She then held the position of Global Vice President of Leadership and Organization Development at the Anglo-Dutch Company's London headquarters there. She was later promoted in 2016 and became Unilever's first woman, first Asian and youngest CHRO.
