Cancer refers to any one of a large number of diseases characterized by the development of abnormal cells that divide uncontrollably and have the ability to infiltrate and destroy normal body tissue; it often has the ability to spread throughout your body. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the world
After several studies and trials have shown that radiotherapy can be quite effective in destroying tumours. This treatment is expected to take five days or less. The findings of this new study by British doctors were published in the medical journal The Lancet in April.
People who had to undergo powerful radiotherapy to eliminate cancer cells had to face a lot of trouble earlier. Often they used to keep their work and family life at bay for six weeks. But now with the advancement in new and accurate technology, they will have a lot of facility in getting radiotherapy.
In the last two decades, UK doctors have tried to show that giving higher doses of radiotherapy in shorter sessions can lead to effective treatment of certain types of cancers (breast, bowel, prostate, and lung cancer). According to doctors, repeated tests have shown that giving higher amounts of radiotherapy can cause more damage to healthy tissue, despite concerns that the treatment is safe and has no side effects.
The National Health Service (NHS) clinics looked for ways to make treatment more efficient for cancer patients amid the epidemic, and many patients have adopted these methods. The result is that increasing numbers of patients battling breast, bowel, prostate and lung cancer in the NHS through radiotherapy treatment is now decreasing.
Dr Janet Dickson, president of the Royal College of Radiologists and Lung Oncologist Consultant, said patients want the best treatment. But at the same time, they also want that there is no problem in their daily life due to treatment. In such a situation, they are opting for a shorter time of one week instead of a longer period of six weeks
