First AC Vs Third AC: Millions of people travel daily by Indian Railways, making train journeys convenient and comfortable. When it comes to long-distance travel, many people prefer trains over flights.

Trains offer more choices depending on your comfort and financial preferences. There are two main types of compartments in trains: AC and Non-AC.

Non-AC compartments include General and Sleeper coaches, while AC compartments are divided into three types: First AC, Second AC, and Third AC. In terms of AC travel, First AC tickets are the most expensive, while Third AC tickets are the least expensive.

So, what are the differences between First AC and Third AC, and what facilities are provided in each? Let’s explore the details.

Facilities Provided in Third AC

Third AC doesn't offer many facilities, but it does provide more comfort compared to Sleeper class. When traveling in Third AC, you are provided with bed linens, pillows, and blankets, which are not available in Sleeper class.

In terms of seating, Third AC has three-tiered seats facing each other, similar to Sleeper class, with two side berths.

While Third AC may not offer many additional amenities, the availability of air conditioning and bedding (sheets, blankets, and pillows) makes the journey more comfortable.

However, the fare for Third AC is significantly higher than Sleeper class.

First AC is the most premium coach in trains, offering a luxury experience. It does not have side seats. In a full AC First Class coach, there are eight cabins, including two coupes, while a half AC First Class coach features three cabins, including one coupe.

Each coach is equipped with an attendant to assist passengers. Bedding is included in the fare. This air-conditioned coach is available only on popular routes and can accommodate 18 passengers (full coach) or 10 passengers (half coach).

Traveling in First AC provides a high level of comfort and tranquility due to fewer passengers and a more exclusive environment.

You can expect minimal disturbances, making your journey more peaceful and enjoyable.
