The maximum and minimum limits were fixed in May last year.
On August 13, the Civil Aviation Ministry had increased the fare limit by a maximum of 13% and a minimum of 10%. Due to this, the minimum fare on the 40-minute route was reduced to Rs 2,900. While the maximum fare was Rs 8,800. Earlier in June also, the government had increased the minimum airfares from 13% to 16%. After the removal of the fare limit, airlines can fix more or less fares according to their own. This can result in both loss and gain for the passengers.
The proportion of corporate passengers traveling in IndiGo has reached 35% as compared to before Corona. Very soon it may go up to 50%. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia last week spoke with top officials of some airlines regarding the fare cap. However, no decision could be taken on this.
Sources say that another meeting is going to be held soon in this matter. After that, a decision can be taken on it. The last meeting was attended by GoAir CEOs along with Vistara, IndiGo, Air Asia, and SpiceJet. However, some flight companies believe that the fare limit should not be removed until the number of passengers reaches the first position of Corona.
Global airlines body International Air Transport Association (IATA) is in favor of removing the fare cap. The number of air passengers in the country has increased by 36% in the first week of August as compared to the last week of July. The main reason for the increase is an economic activity and lower rents. Air companies are not yet allowed to fly full flights.
