Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave his statement on Nagaland firing in Lok Sabha on Monday. He said that the security forces had prepared the operation against the militants. A vehicle was stopped by the security forces, but the vehicle started running away. The army got suspicious and opened fire. In this, 6 out of 8 people in the vehicle died. It was later proved to be a case of mistaken identity. The army took the two injured to the hospital.
People surrounded army vehicles and attacked them. One soldier was killed and several were injured in the attack. Security forces had to open fire in their security, in which 7 civilians were killed and some others were injured. The local administration has made efforts to control the situation. The atmosphere is tense but under control. Nagaland's DGP and commissioner visited the spot and reviewed the matter. Because of the seriousness of the matter, prohibitory orders have been imposed by the local administration.
The State Crime Branch has been entrusted with the investigation. SIT has been formed to provide justice to the victims, which will complete the investigation and will give a report within a month. Amit Shah said that after the unfortunate incident, an angry mob of 250 people attacked the COB of Assam Rifles in Mon town. Assam Rifles personnel had to open fire to disperse the crowd, in which another civilian was killed and several others were injured.
Amit Shah told the House that additional forces have been deployed. A press release has been issued, in which the army has expressed grief over the death of innocent civilians. The army has ordered an inquiry into the cause of these unfortunate deaths at the highest level. Amit Shah said that appropriate legal action will be taken in this matter. The Home Minister said that after getting information about the incident, he spoke to the Governor and Home Secretary of Nagaland.
Amit Shah told the House that the Union Home Ministry sent the Secretary-in-Charge of the Northeast to Nagaland. He held necessary meetings on Monday and reviewed the situation in detail. It has been decided that all agencies should ensure that no such incident is repeated while conducting operations against the insurgents.
