Earthquake in North India: As per reports, the earthquakes occurred in a span of less than an hour. The first earthquake of magnitude 4.6 struck Nepal West at 2:25 PM with a depth of 10 km and was followed by a 6.2 magnitude tremor at 2:51 PM.
A couple of more earthquakes were felt of magnitude 3.6 & 3.1 respectively at a depth of 15 and 10 km, according to an official of the National Centre for Seismology.
According to reports the epicenter of the strongest earthquake was present at 206 km southeast of Joshimath town in Uttarakhand and 284 km north of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The earthquake caused terror in the minds of the people of Delhi NCR, who quickly evacuated their offices and residential buildings to safe places. An advisory was also issued by the Delhi police asking the people to remain calm and not panic.
“We hope you all are safe. Please come out of your buildings to a safe spot, but do not panic. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS! For any emergency help, dial 112,” the Delhi Police said in a post on X.
Shocks were also reported in various other parts of North India including, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and other North Indian cities. According to preliminary reports, there was no information available regarding any losses, the Police Control Room in Jaipur mentioned.
It is worth noting that Nepal is situated in one of the most intense tectonic zones of the world and is categorized under seismic zones IV and V, making Nepal highly susceptible to high-intensity earthquakes.
