Recently, a court in Raipur, Chhattisgarh had allowed Kalicharan Maharaj to be taken to Maharashtra on transit remand. He was ordered to appear in a Pune court by January 6.
During the conclusion of the two-day 'Dharma Sansad' (religious parliament) in Raipur, Kalicharan Maharaj allegedly used derogatory words against Mahatma Gandhi and praised his assassin, Nathuram Godse. According to media reports, in this Dharma Sansad of Raipur, Kalicharan Maharaj also asked the people to choose a staunch Hindu leader as the head of the government to protect the religion. Raipur Police had registered a case against Kalicharan Maharaj under sections 294 (objectionable act) and 505 (statement causing mischief in public) of the Indian Penal Code. Later, sedition under 124A and four other sections were also added in this case.
Kalicharan Maharaj was arrested from Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh in the early hours of Thursday, after which a situation of confrontation has arisen between the two states. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that the manner in which the Chhattisgarh Police has arrested Kalicharan Maharaj is against federal dignity.
