During the hearing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the bench has shown sternness regarding the repeated paroles granted to rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim.
The court stated that parole should not be granted to Ram Rahim in the future without the court's permission.
It is worth mentioning that Ram Rahim's parole is ending on March 10, and on that day, he has been directed to surrender.
During the court proceedings, the bench asked the Haryana government about the number of other prisoners who have been similarly granted parole as Dera chief Ram Rahim.
The High Court has sought information from the Haryana government, stating that details should be provided during the next hearing.
The SGPC had challenged the paroles being granted to Dera chief Ram Rahim in the High Court. The SGPC argued that there are several serious cases registered against Dera chief Ram Rahim, and he has been found guilty and sentenced in some of them.
Despite this, it is entirely wrong for the Haryana government to grant paroles to the Dera chief.
Ram Rahim was recently granted a 50-day parole in 2024.
In 2023, he was granted parole three times:
1. 40 days in January,
2. 30 days in July, and
3. 21 days in November.
In 2022, he was let out of the Sunaria jail in Haryana's Rohtak three times:
1. In February 2022, he was granted a three-week parole,
2. In June 2022, he was out for one month, and
3. In October 2022, he was granted a 40-day parole.
