Passengers who have booked e-tickets through IRCTC website need not do anything for refund of tickets. In case of train cancelation, the refund will be credited to the customer's bank account/credit card/e-wallet from which the payment has been made.
If you have purchased the ticket from the reservation counter, then it can be canceled up to 72 hours after the scheduled departure of the train at any computerized reservation counter. If the passenger cancels the ticket on his own, IRCTC deducts some cancelation charges from the refund. Cancelation charges are different for each reservation category.
