Political manoeuvring is ongoing regarding appointing the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament. A strong contest between candidates is expected.
The NDA is likely to announce its candidate for this position on Tuesday, a day before the scheduled Speaker election on June 26. The candidate must file their nomination papers by 12 PM on Tuesday.
BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab has been appointed as the Protem Speaker for the 18th Lok Sabha. President Droupadi Murmu has appointed BJP member from Cuttack, Bhartruhari Mahtab, as the temporary Speaker under Article 95(1) of the Constitution.
He will discharge the duties of the Lok Sabha's presiding officer until the new Lok Sabha Speaker's election.
After the panel of Chairpersons, the Protem Speaker will administer the oath to the members of the Council of Ministers as Lok Sabha members.
Members from different states will take their oaths in alphabetical order over the next two days. The election for the Lok Sabha Speaker will take place on Wednesday, and the Prime Minister will introduce his Council of Ministers in the House immediately afterwards.
The President is scheduled to address a joint session of both Houses of Parliament on June 27. The debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address will begin on June 28, with the Prime Minister expected to respond to the debate on July 2 or 3.
