Story of Phoolan Devi: Dr Sanjay Nishad, the head of the Nishad Party in Uttar Pradesh, has written to the central and state governments requesting a CBI investigation into the death of Phoolan Devi.

He has also ordered that Phoolan Devi's property be returned to her mother, Mula Devi, free of encroachment.

In July 25 2001, Phoolan Devi, a former 'Bandit Queen' who became an MP from Mirzapur, was killed.

What Issue Nishad raise in his letter?

In his letter, Sanjay Nishad stated, "Former MP sister heroine Phoolan Devi has been a role model for women all over the world, not just the fisherman society." She formed a front against injustice in order to raise awareness in society.

Phoolan Devi has fought from the streets to the halls of power to safeguard women's dignity against oppression and tyranny, harassment and exploitation, and for their rights."

Sanjay Nishad submitted memorandum

"Nishad party is a party following the ideals and footsteps of Veerangana Phoolan Devi," the Nishad party chief wrote further in his letter. Following in her footsteps, the Nishad party has always raised its voice in support of the downtrodden, destitute, and backward.

On the anniversary of her death, a district-level memorandum is being handed over to former MP sister Phoolan Devi's property from the Samajwadi Party-backed mafias to be given to her mother.

"Phoolan Devi's property should be freed from the SP-backed mafias, and her mother should be named," he stated. In the name of Phoolan Devi, women's self-defense centers should be established.

The village of the former MP should be created as a model hamlet.

Story of Phoolan Devi: Dacoit to Politician

Phoolan Devi was born in a poor family on 10 August 1963 in Gorha village of Jalaun district. Phoolan Devi was a little different. Wrong behaviour, injustice, all this was never acceptable to her and because of this her father forced Phoolan to marry a middle-aged man at the age of 11. On coming to her in-laws house, Phoolan Devi was harassed. The husband's behaviour was also not good towards Phoolan Devi.

Due to this Phoolan Devi left her in-laws. After leaving her in-laws house, she took a new path which no one had ever thought of.

At the age of 20, Phoolan Devi joined the gang of dacoits. Even after that the problems did not get over.

After some time, the dacoits attacked and took her away with them and forcibly gang-raped her.

This process continued for some years, but one day he met Vikram Mallah, Together with whom she formed a separate gang of bandits.

In 1981, she lined up 22 Thakurs together and fired with bullets to avenge the gangrape they did.

After which the name of Phoolan Devi started ringing from the village to the entire Chambal valley.

After this whole act, the Uttar Pradesh government ordered the immediate arrest of Phoolan Devi, but the police team of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh failed to catch Phoolan Devi.

After a lot of efforts, she finally surrendered. Her trial was delayed for 11 years, during which she remained lodged as an ordinary prisoner in the Gwalior Central Jail.

In 1993, the Mulayam Singh government of Uttar Pradesh acquitted Phoolan Devi by removing all the cases. After which Phoolan Devi got a new life.

After venturing into politics, Phoolan also got a Lok Sabha ticket in 1996 from the Samajwadi Party.

Phoolan Devi became an MP by winning the Mirzapur parliamentary seat.
