The lockdown led to behavioral changes in people, but love for biryani remains same. A lot of people tried to learn cooking and some also became chef during home quarantine. Not all people are good at kitchen and cooking stuff, such people relied on online delivery of food. The "StatEATistics report: The Quarantine Edition" from food delivery platform Swiggy states that Biryani is most ordered food in india.
Around 5.5 lakh time people chose biryani over any other food making it most ordered food. This shows that Indians have craved for Biryani the most in the lockdown. Biryani took top place in overall orders followed by Butter Naan and Masala Dosa orders at 3,35,185 and 3,31,423, respectively. This is not first time when biryani at top spot, it has been noted that biryani is most ordered food from past three years.
There is no exception that Indians love sweet and even in lockdown they continuously had sweets. Choco Lava cake took top spot in this category. It was ordered 1,29,000 times during this period followed by Gulab Jamun(84,558) and Butterscotch Mouse Cake(27,317) according to the report.
Celebrating birthdays via online video calls have become new normal but cakes are still ordered. The report derived from Swiggy's order analysis shows that around 1,20,000 cake orders took place. "On average, '65,000' people use to order meal by 8pm so that it arrives in time of dinner. It was the busiest hour for Swiggy delivery partners and restaurants."according to report.
For the people who used to cook at home, Swiggy delivered 323 million kgs onions and 56 million kgs banana's via its grocery section.
This report also shows that it has delivered around 3,50,00 packs of instant noodles to the customers during this lockdown. Most essential products in this time are Mask and sanitizer. Swiggy delivered them as well, over 73,000 bottles of santizers and 47,000 mask orders recorded.
