Let us tell you that the union government has made it clear that the central government will not get the OBC castes counted in the census. The Central government has said in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court that such a census is not practical. This policy is in force in the nation since 1951. The government has decided to continue with it this time also. Under the already existing policy, only SC, ST, religious and linguistic groups will be counted.

The Social Justice Ministry has filed a written reply

In response to a petition by the Maharashtra government, the Center government has filed this affidavit. The court had sought a response from the Center government on the demand to collect and make public the caste data of the population. Now the Social Justice Ministry has filed a written reply saying that it will not be practical to calculate the backward castes. The Central government has said that the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) conducted in 2011 cannot be termed as OBC census.
