Praveen Kumar on Wednesday turned into the only Indian man to win a wushu World Championships gold, beating Russel Diaz of the Philippines in the 48kg category. The Indian saw off his Filipino adversary 2-1 in the men's sanda occasion of the fifteenth World Wushu Championships.

Praveen had before vanquished Uzbekistan's Khasan Ikromov 2-0 in the semifinal on Tuesday to set up the summit conflict with Diaz.

In 2017, Pooja Kadian turned into the only Indian to be crowned world champion in wushu after she vanquished Evgeniya Stepanova of Russia in the woman's 75 kg sanda occasion.

Wushu Sanda is a martial art that consolidates full-contact kickboxing, including short proximity punches and kicks, with wrestling, takedowns, throws, sweeps and kicks catches.
