The UGC (University Grants Commission) has announced an important decision that due to the corona epidemic, PhD degree will not be mandatory from July 1, 2021 to July 1, 2023 in the appointment of assistant professors in universities.

Due to the Corona epidemic, many candidates have not been able to complete their PhD degrees. So this facility has been given to them so that they can complete their PhD degrees.

PhD degree has been abolished for this year only

The Education Minister had said that PhD degree is compulsory for appointment to the post of Assistant Professor in higher education institutions of the country. But now this decision of Education Minister has been removed by the Ministry of Education for this session only. So that the vacancies in the institutions can be filled on time. And Education is not affected due to a possible shortage of faculty and professors.

Actually, we were receiving applications from candidates who wanted to apply for the post of Assistant Professor but were unable to complete the PhD. Therefore, the compulsion of PhD has been abolished for this year only.

The order was issued for the compulsion of PhD in 2018

Now candidates with PG degrees, who have qualified for the NET, will be eligible for the recruitment of Assistant Professor. This will help colleges and universities fill all vacant seats as soon as possible. Previously it was compulsory to have NET qualified for Assistant Professor recruitment in colleges and universities. However, in 2018, the Central Government had issued an order. In addition to NET, PhD would be required for the candidates to get the Assistant Professor's job.
