The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday announced the names of 30 candidates, including former police officers of the state, for the 2022 assembly elections in Punjab. In this list of candidates, the name of former Punjab Police officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who headed the SIT probe into the 2015 Kot Kapura and Behbal Kalan firing cases, tops the list.
Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party had announced 10 candidates for Punjab Assembly and all of them are sitting MLAs. Vijay Pratap Singh has been given ticket from Amritsar North seat. He had taken VRS in April this year and later he joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Vijay Pratap Singh, who held the post of Inspector General of Police, had resigned after the Punjab and Haryana High Court canceled the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the 2015 Kot Kapura shooting incident.
Apart from this, Punjabi singer Anmol Gagan Maan will contest from Kharar seat while Balkar Singh Sidhu will contest from Rampura Phool seat. Raman Bahl, who joined the Aam Aadmi Party after resigning from Congress last month, will contest from Gurdaspur seat while Jagroop Singh Sekhwan, son of former Punjab minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, will contest from Qadian seat. Sewa Singh Sekhwan passed away in October.
Along with this, Vibhuti Sharma was assigned to Pathankot, Shamsher Singh to Dina Nagar (Reserved-Scheduled Caste), Sharry Kalsi to Batala, Balbir Singh Pannu to Fatehgarh Churian, Inderbir Singh Nijjar to Amritsar South, Laljit Singh Bhullar to Patti, Balkar Singh to Kartarpur. (Reserved), Ravjot Singh from Sham Chaurasi (Reserved), Lalit Mohan from Nawanshahr and Daljit Singh from Ludhiana East.
Not only this, Kulwant Singh Sidhu from Atma Nagar, Manvinder Singh from Payal (Reserved), Naresh Kataria from Zira, Jagdeep Singh from Muktsar, Gurdit Singh Sekhon from Faridkot, Neena Mittal from Rajpura, Harmeet Singh from Sanaur, Chetan Singh will contest from Samana and Madan Lal Bagga from Ludhiana North.
Jiwan Singh from Gill (Reserved), Gurmeet Singh Khudian from Lambi, Gurlal from Ghanaur, Labh Singh Ugoke from Bhadaur (SC), Lal Chand from Bhoa (SC) and Harbhajan Singh from Jandiala (SC) seat. 117-member Punjab Assembly Elections are to be held early next year.
