Amid the President election, senior Trinamool Congress leader Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday left the party. Sinha while quitting the party said it was high time for him to work for larger national interests and thanked party supremo Mamta Banerjee too for showing respect to him.
It must be noteworthy here that the decision came soon after the TMC decided to propose Yashwant’s name as the joint-Opposition candidate for the President’s post.
Yashwant Sinha, former union minister took to Twitter to announce his farewell from TMC and wrote, “I am grateful to Mamataji for the honour and prestige she bestowed on me in the TMC. Now a time has come when for a larger national cause I must step aside from the party to work for greater opposition unity. I am sure she approves of the step.”
Yashwant Sinha to be announced as the official Candidate from the Opposition?
The latest development pushes speculations to the highest that the opposition might agree for Yashwant Sinha as the common candidate for Presidential Election. Earlier, former Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah had refused to represent the opposition in the election.
