The responsibility of monitoring the investigation related to the Lakhimpur Kheri violence has been entrusted to former Punjab-Haryana High Court judge Rakesh Kumar Jain. Its order was given by the Supreme Court during the hearing of the case on Wednesday. Rakesh Kumar Jain will keep in mind the fairness and justice of the investigation of the case. Along with this, the Supreme Court has also ordered the reconstitution of the SIT (Special Investigation Team) of the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh to investigate the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
During the hearing of the Lakhimpur violence case, the Supreme Court has also ordered the reorganization of the SIT. While reconstituting the SIT, the Supreme Court has included IPS SB Srirodkar, Deepender Singh and Padmaja Chauhan. The next hearing of the case will be done by the Supreme Court after the filing of the charge sheet. Appointed retired judges of the Supreme Court will inform the Supreme Court about the filing of the charge sheet.
Earlier on November 15, on the hearing of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, the Supreme Court had told the Uttar Pradesh government that the Supreme Court can appoint a retired judge of the High Court to oversee the investigation. The Supreme Court can decide to appoint whomever it thinks fits. At the same time, during the hearing, the Supreme Court mentioned that it wants to appoint Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain, a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. For this, the Supreme Court needs one day's time.
At the same time, the Supreme Court had directed to upgrade the SIT engaged in the investigation of Lakhimpur violence. The Supreme Court had said that the UP government should submit the list of IPS officers of UP by Tuesday. Keep in mind that IPS should be of UP cadre. But, do not be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, in the last hearing of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, the Supreme Court had raised serious questions on the investigation of the Uttar Pradesh government. The Supreme Court had said that efforts are on to save a particular accused involved in the violence. The Supreme Court had directed a separate investigation of both the FIRs.
