The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government on the petition demanding immediate minimum wages to daily wage laborers due to the applicable lockdown on Coronavirus. The court will solve the matter again on 7 April.
The Ministry of Health said on Wednesday that migrants are undergoing social, psychological and emotional distress in the event of lockdown. The Ministry has stated that sometimes, migrant laborers have to face harassment and negative reactions from the local community. All this strengthens the demand for social security. ' It further states that migrant workers are taken to temporary shelters to spend a few days, including isolation wards, in front of migrant workers, there is concern about food, shelter, health care, fear of getting infected and loss of wages and family.
The petition was filed in this case on behalf of social workers Harsh Mander and Anjali Bhardwaj, on which the court has issued a notice to the Central Government. Now the court will next solve the matter on 7 April.
Significantly, the maximum impact of the 21-day lockdown is on daily wage workers. Many people in the country walked out of their homes on foot only after the money ran out. Many landlords have refused to live without paying rent to daily laborers, when they ran out of money, they left for their homes on foot.
