ODI World Cup: A World Cup in all three formats is an important tournament for every country and the players who take part in that ICC mega event.

The fifty-overs World Cup is played every four years. The last World Cup of the One Day International format was played in England and Wales in 2019.

England won that ICC title for the first time under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan in 2019 and now under Jos Buttler, this team will look to defend their ODI crown in 2023.

Team India was led by Virat Kohli in the last ODI World Cup in 2019. But the team didn’t qualify for the finals after they lost to New Zealand in the semi-final encounter.

In the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma will lead this Indian team and Hitman will hope to win this year’s tournament just like MS Dhoni won it in 2011 when the ODI World Cup was played at home.

In this segment, we will name the top 2 batters from the men in blue side who did well in the last edition of the 2019 ODI Cricket World Cup:

1. Rohit Sharma

The current ODI and Test skipper Hitman Sharma was in superb form in the ODI World Cup of 2019. His form in the warm-up games had worried some of the fans.

But Rohit performed when it mattered the most. He was lucky at the start because some drop catches and run-out chances went his way.

Still, he hung in there and scored the highest runs in the last edition of that tournament. Sharma ji scored just 2 single-digit scores in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Those scores came against Afghanistan in the league game and other came against New Zealand in the semi-final clash.

Hitman was the highest scorer from Team India. He had the most 100s, the best strike rate, and the best average and he also scored the most fours and sixes for India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Rohit Sharma had scored 648 runs in 9 matches with an average of 81 and a strike rate of 98.33. He had 5 centuries to his name, which is a record for most hundreds in a single edition of a cricket World Cup.

Hitman had even smashed 14 sixes and 67 fours, which is also the most when it is compared to the other Indian batters in the ODI World Cup of 2019.

2. Virat Kohli

The former Indian skipper didn't have a great tournament. He could have done better as a skipper and batter of the team.

King Kohli scored 5 back-to-back fifties in the last edition, which is a record for Team India.

But he didn't score a single hundred in the 9 matches he played. Virat Kohli amassed 443 runs with an average of 55.37 and a strike rate of 95.05.

In this ODI World Cup of 2023, Virat Kohli will hold the key for Team India in the middle-order batting position. He has shown some glimpses of good form in the matches which he has played till now.

But Virat needs to have a good ODI Asia Cup in 2023 which will be played in the fifty-overs format owing to the ODI World Cup in India.

The Blues will play all the fifty overs matches in Sri Lanka at Kandy and Colombo in this year’s Asia Cup 2023.
